- RasterOps Announces The Wall
- First Multi-Screen Display System to Offer Full-wall Video and Graphics
-
- SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 27, 1992 — The RasterOps Wall Division today
- announced the first multi-screen display system to concurrently display
- full-wall video with high-resolution color graphics, text and animation, via an
- Apple® Macintosh®. The Wall™ is a larger-than-life medium for communicating
- ideas by focusing on the visual impact of a wall of monitors or projectors. An
- increasing number of multi-screen display systems are being used in hotels,
- showrooms, corporate presentation centers, retail floors and point-of-purchase
- displays.
-
- Most competitive offerings require that customers choose between a graphics
- wall with limited or no video capabilities or a video wall with low-resolution
- graphics. RasterOps is the first company to integrate full-wall video and
- high-resolution graphics in a true videographic wall. In keeping with
- RasterOps’ commitment to high-performance and cost-effective color imaging, The
- Wall allows customers, previously priced out of the videographic wall market,
- to deliver their messages to a dramatically increased number of people.
- “As a pioneer in high-quality color imaging solutions on the desktop, our go
- is to provide the same degree of quality, ease-of-use and price/performance to
- customers making big picture

- presentations,” said Andréa Skov, director of marketing for the RasterOps Wall
- Division. “These high-impact displays will add a new dimension to the way
- customers communicate their ideas.”
-
- The Wall is an expandable array of monitors or projectors controlled by
- RasterOps WallBoards™ which can display up to 10 live video sources in addition
- to high-resolution graphics, text and animation. Because the WallBoards reside
- in the Macintosh, the need for special interfaces to expensive external control
- units is eliminated. The shape of the Wall is also
- user-definable, as the Wall is controlled completely by the Macintosh. Modular
- in design, The Wall allows small system configurations to be expanded later
- into larger systems.
-
- The RasterOps Wall Division takes an innovative approach to eliminating the
- need for custom programming, a time-consuming, expensive requirement of other
- video and graphic walls. In addition to providing a simple user interface,
- RasterOps includes a collection of Plug-and-Play WallTemplates™ — a series of
- HyperCard™ and Macromedia Director™ wall presentations using The Wall’s wide
- array of special effects. As a natural extension of the Macintosh display, The
- Wall can also run any off-the-shelf software, including all of the popular
- authoring, presentation and graphics software.
-
- The Wall is a complete, Macintosh-ready system including non-interlaced,
- flicker-free 31.5 KHz displays. The RasterOps WallBoard is a 16-bit per pixel,
- 1162 x 864 Macintosh II NuBus card, with four NTSC, PAL, S-video inputs. In
- addition, The Wall includes cabling and modular WallStands™, designed to allow
- customers to mount literature racks, display logos and advertising messages,
- house speakers or use as storage.
-
- The Wall will be available in September 1992. For pricing and additional
- information call (408) 562-4200.
